Company of Biologists Young Scientist Bursary Scheme

The Consortium is pleased to announce a scheme to provide bursaries for non–UK/Éire based postgraduate students and young postdoctoral scientists to attend the 4th Genomes to Systems Conference. This scheme is generously funded by the Company of Biologists, a UK–based charity.

Bursaries of £300 will be offered to 12 young scientists on a competitive basis based on a submitted poster presentation. Any remaining costs must be borne by the applicant and his/her institution.

Conditions are:

1. Applicants should submit an abstract describing a poster they propose to present at the Conference. This should be placed in the text box on the application form provided, and e–mailed to Lesley Parsons by 5 p.m., Friday 30th November 2007, clearly labelled with the email header "Young Scientists Bursary Scheme".
2. Applicants should indicate in the accompanying e–mail the following details –
1. Name
2. Address, email address and telephone numbers
3. Institutional address and contact details
4. Doctoral advisors name and contact details (if pre-doctoral)
3. Applicants must be undergoing postgraduate education or within 3 years of receiving their PhD award. They should currently be based and working in a non–UK/Éire research institution.
4. Applicants can be named as first author on only one poster submission.

Posters will be judged on the basis of scientific quality by a small panel drawn from Consortium members. All applicants will be informed of a decision via e-mail within 14 days of the submission deadline.

Bursaries will be awarded on completion of the conference once attendance has been confirmed

In the event that an applicant is not chosen for award of a bursary it is possible for their application to be automatically entered as a general poster application. Applicants should indicate on the bursary application if they want their poster to be considered in this selection.
